• C&O 614 Will Soon Run Again ! Historic 199... . 614 to soon run again. Historic 1996 Port Jervis Trip • Video . Monster Smoke Plume. Best 614 shot ever. On June 8, 2025 Chesapeake and Ohio 614 and auxiliary tender arrived at the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania after a two day trip from Clifton Forge Virginia. The official restoration officially began the next day June 9, 2025. It was shortly thereafter we decided to make a visit to our old friend and see how things were progressing. The sun was shining and it was quiet upon our arrival which allowed for some nice shots. First a little background on the six fourteen. Built in 1948 by Lima Locomotive Works, six fourteen is a Class 4-8-4 steam locomotive. Constructed as one of the last commercial steam engines in the United States, it is the epitome of steam technology. The six fourteen pulled the C&Os premier passenger trains like the George Washington. In November 2024, RJD America LLC took ownership of six fourteen from Ross Rowland. The company is dedicated to restoring and operating the locomotive for excursion and educational purposes. Now that six fourteen is at the Strasburg’s Restoration facility a comprehensive restoration process has officially begun. Expert mechanics and engineers are currently undertaking detailed assessments. Soon ultrasonic inspections of the boiler and firebox will start followed by thorough examination of wheel assemblies and running gear and mechanical components. In addition there will be project planning, documentation and parts inventory launched. The restoration, funded entirely by private resources through RJD America, is expected to take approximately two years to complete. This ambitious timeline encompasses extensive boiler repairs, mechanical overhauls, and modernizations necessary to meet the rigorous safety and operational standards set by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Upon completion, six fourteen is anticipated to return to the rails, participating in special excursion events and heritage railroad programs. The locomotive’s return will provide rail enthusiasts and the public an opportunity to experience a piece of railroading history. As the massive restoration effort commences, the anticipation will build among railfans awaiting the return of one of America’s most celebrated steam engines. Chesapeake & Ohio six fourteen’ss revival is a tribute to railroad history and also highlights the fascination of steam locomotion in the 21st century.
