The Grand Bazaar, located in the heart of Istanbul, between the Beyazıt, Nuruosmaniye, and Mercan districts, is one of the world's largest and oldest covered markets. It houses approximately 4,000 shops employing around 25,000 people. At its peak, it is said to attract close to 500,000 visitors. In 2014, it was ranked first among the world's most visited tourist attractions with 91,250,000 visitors. The Grand Bazaar is often referred to as the world's first shopping mall.
