Sundews vs Flies Compilation

Sundews (Drosera) vs. various flies I noticed that I had a bunch of videos of my plants eating flies, so I made you all a nice compilation of them. Flies are great prey because their wings are pretty much useless after they’ve been smothered in the hydrogel. They also fight back pretty hard which causes the sundew to wrap them up as quickly as possible. The carnivorous sundew can detect their movement as well as the presence of nitrogen compounds found on the fly. Once the sundew correctly identifies it as prey, electrical impulses fill the vacuoles towards the back of the leaf with water, which causes them to snap shut and curl. Over time the insect is digested by enzymes the plant secretes into its hydrogel after having been triggered.
