Novena to the Infant of Prague

The "Novena to the Infant Jesus of Prague" (prayer text below) is a nine-day prayer devotion and petition to the Child Jesus and His Sacred Heart. The novena generally is prayed on the nine days leading up to the Feast of the Infant Jesus of Prague (January 14), although it can be prayed any time. The Infant of Prague devotion centers on a statue of the child Jesus given to the Carmelite church in Prague in 1628. After the statue was damaged and neglected during the Thirty Years' War, Father Cyril, a Carmelite priest, felt called to restore it in the late 1630s. During prayer before the broken statue, he reported hearing the words, "Have pity on me and I will have pity on you. Give me my hands and I will give you peace." After the statue was restored, numerous miracles were attributed to the Infant's intercession, establishing this devotion as a source of divine help, particularly for those seeking assistance with practical necessities.
