After winning 21 of 22 home & away games throughout the season and comfortably sailing through the first two finals, Essendon capped off an incredible 2000 season with a 60-point win over Melbourne in the Grand Final to claim a record-equalling 16th AFL Premiership. There were stars all over the field including Matthew Lloyd, Paul Barnard, Blake Caracella and Justin Blumfield. But the greatest performance came from the captain James Hird, whose 29-disposals and two goals set him apart as the clear winner of the Norm Smith Medal as best-on-ground. Will we ever see a season as dominant as this from any side? Who knows?
