South Korea is dotted with Buddhist temples and almost a quarter of the Korean population define themselves as Buddhists. Yet Buddhism has seemingly little power and influence in shaping contemporary Korean politics and society; there is no strong Buddhist political parties or charismatic Buddhist leaders defining the agenda.
