Miravet is a municipality in Catalonia Spain, belonging to the province of Tarragona, in the region of Ribera de Ebro, located on the south bank, to the right of the Ebro River. Templar castle of Miravet stands out, located on the hill overlooking the river. The economy of the municipality is basically agricultural (fruit trees with cherries, peaches and plums, dry vineyards, almond trees, olive trees), but there is also a tourist sector favored by the castle, the views of the Ebro, the passage of the boat (a passage of the river Ebro in a traditional way taking advantage of the current), and especially the traditional pottery that is almost only preserved in the town, with jugs and other typical objects; there are seven active workshops in its traditional neighborhood on the outskirts of the town. Miravet Castle was built on an excellent vantage point, it is one of the best examples of the architecture of the Order of the Templars in Europe. After its conquest in 1153, it became the property of the Christians and Ramon Berenguer IV gave it to Pere de Rovira, master of the Knights Templar in Hispania and Provence, who reconstructed the castle transforming it into one of the main centres of Christian power on the Iberian Peninsula. Its uniformity of construction shows that the Templars constructed the building in a relatively short time. Nevertheless, the remains of an Andalusian fortress are evident especially in the lower sections of the wall and in part of the buildings of the upper enclosure. Beyond the Castle, Miravet is a walled citadel with constructions on different levels.
