After the arrest of the ringleader, 'King' David Hartley by the exciseman William Deighton, murder was planned..... The walk is inspired by the book 'The Gallows Pole' by Benjamin Myers. The story is also told in the book 'Clip a Bright Guinea' by John Marsh, though I believe this is now out of print.
