Nicolas Sallée : Le cas français des éducateurs de la Protection judiciaire de la jeunesse (PJJ)

Full conference title: Institutional Transformations, Professional Reconfigurations: The French Case of Youth Judicial Protection (PJJ) Educators Abstract: As members of the Ministry of Justice and trained by the institution that employs them, the 5,000 PJJ educators constitute a distinct professional group within the French field of special education. Through the actions and positions of their long-standing union representative—the National Union of Supervised Education Personnel (SNPES), founded in 1947—they base their identity on their membership in a public sector that contributes to the educability of minors under the jurisdiction of the courts. After analyzing some of the recent institutional transformations experienced by this public sector, and the evolving understanding of educability that underlies them, we will seek to understand the reconfigurations of the professional group, particularly by studying the changes observed in the unionization patterns of PJJ educators. This conference will outline the theoretical and practical foundations of LSV construction.
