Carry On Beside the Carillon

Enter the world of imagi-nations, where wargames are played in a parallel universe that closely resembles our own, but with entirely fictitious nations peopled by entirely fictitious citizens. Here, in the febrile mind of Henry Hyde, vast continents have emerged and been mapped, and in this video, two bellicose neighbours are firing the early shots in a war which may rumble on for years, both real and imaginary. Thus we have Borgenmark, a vaguely Scandinavian-cum-northern European country, invading Grenouisse, a Francophone people to the south, who have caused all kinds of trouble for their various neighbours in a period that closely resembles our real eighteenth century Age of Reason. Now they are reaping what they sowed when, in a previous conflict, they foolishly allowed a mercenary Brigadier to make a hot-headed decision that resulted in the appalling mass murder of thousands of Borg citizens of the city of Ofteborg in 1750. Say one thing about the Borg, they know how to hold a grudge, and with grim determination, they threw pontoon bridges across the River Carillon and established a bridgehead in June, 1752. Shortly thereafter, however, political upheaval in the Electorate of Borgenmark saw its leader, Locutus, removed from office and replaced by the wealthy and devious Wolfgang, Hedvig von Königsmark. This new Elector decided to stamp his authority over the Borg with a show of force, which resulted in the ill-fated assault on the border town of Contre-Rivière, which you can read about and watch by becoming one of my patrons at   / battlegames   Desperate to avert a PR disaster, Wolfgang orders one of his generals to exploit the successful crossing of the Carillon made earlier, so now the plan is to push south towards the Grenouissian city of Passillon to wreak revenge. Can the Grenouissians prevent this? What will be the after-effects for the many nations of the continent of Europia and beyond? With background material crafted entirely by Henry, and with the involvement of friends and patrons, this video tells the story of what happened next in the never ending Wars of the Faltenian Succession that rages planet-wide. NB This video has been updated to improve the clarity of captions and to correct a couple of title errors. As you can see on my Patreon page, the events of the escalatiing conflict between Borgenmark and Grenouisse are extremely complicated, since the opening games of the campaign were played over the course of several years and were never initially intended to be part of a 'proper' campaign! establishing a correct narrative thread to make everything fit has therefore been... challenging!
