When God Breaks Through - Genesis 38

This Sunday, we will examine Genesis 38, a chapter often overlooked because of its morally messy narrative. Yet, in the midst of man’s failures—injustice, sexual immorality, and greed—the chapter highlights God’s faithfulness in preserving the royal line that would lead to Christ. As Judah hesitated to provide his youngest son to Tamar, and Tamar took drastic measures to secure what was rightfully hers, God worked providentially to ensure the birth of Perez. Through this broken and sinful family, God preserved the line that would produce King David and ultimately the Son of David, our Savior, Jesus Christ. This passage reminds us that God’s redemptive purposes cannot be thwarted by human sin, and His righteousness and faithfulness triumph over chaos and failure, for His glory and our good.
