OLD 1968 MARRYAT SCOTT LIFT, MOTOR ROOM & MEMORABILIA
Today's upload is a MARRYAT AND SCOTT LIFT. I don't unusually upload modern or modernised lifts, but this one still has some original features, some features being older than others. For example: The VF DRIVE is the recent addition (probably installed in 2000s) creating a very smooth ride, and controlling the motor momentum to a smooth stop before applying brake. The Mitsubishi PLC (programmable logic controller, using INPUTS (information into controller, such as status from buttons, switches, etc) and OUTPUTS (for control - so the PLC can control things like doors, motors, lamps). This PLC was probably installed 1980s/90s before proper dedicated lift controllers were available. COMING NEXT: In this video is a very quick (800% quicker in fact) clip of my up-and-coming multicamera synchronised video of this lift. I'm planning on adding all kinds of things to this and will obviously take a little time to edit! WHAT IS A PIR AND HOW DOES IT WORK? PIR = Passive Infra Red. Maybe I'll do a video of how they work, but let me try to describe... Put you hand flat on a table and spread your fingers out to make a 90 degree pattern. Where you fingers come from - this is the PIR. Your fingers represent a TOP VIEW of the "detection pattern" which is what the lens on the front of the PIR is aiming. So in other words, it's like you are looking at a room from above, using you fingers as the detection area. Now let's pretend and make a "person" you can use any small object, like a rubber (eraser). Make your eraser come into the room and it goes into your first "finger". The PIR detects a rapid increase in the OVERALL energy level across the room. Then as your eraser enters the room further it goes in between fingers. The energy level drops back to what it was. Move your eraser further into the room and it goes into your second finger. Again, the PIR detects a rapid increase in the overall energy level across all fingers. So... as an object moves into each detection area the energy level goes up, then down, up, then down. This creates a 1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0. These are PULSES. A PIR is normally set up to respond on the second pulse. Don't forget that your fingers prepresent where the lens of the PIR is focusing the detection areas. There are FAR MORE than your fingers, and also there are detection areas that slope down as well as out across the room. PIR doesn't emit anything, it's an energy level detector. The lens is very important to create the 1-0-1-0 pulses as someone walks across the room. Some PIRs have different lenses that focus the area into one area - these are long range. Some have "curtain" lenses that create a "wall" that you cannot get through without detection. Maybe I'll do a video on this soon.
