President Prabowo Subianto visited Marsinah's grave after inaugurating the Ibu Marsinah Museum and Shelter in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (May 16). The solemn pilgrimage served as a form of state respect for the female worker, who is remembered as a symbol of the struggle for workers' rights and courage in resisting injustice. Marsinah was an independent labor union activist and watch factory worker who became widely known after negotiating for approximately 500 workers demanding a minimum wage and freedom of association in 1993. Following the strike, she was reportedly kidnapped and found dead several days later in a gruesome condition. The case has become a symbol of the struggle for human and labor rights in Indonesia. At the cemetery complex, approximately one kilometer from the museum, President Prabowo scattered flowers and offered prayers, accompanied by several ministers from the Indonesian Cabinet. The pilgrimage concluded the inauguration of the Ibu Marsinah Museum, which was packed with local residents and workers from various regions. In his remarks at the museum's inauguration, President Prabowo stated that Marsinah's designation as a National Hero reflected the aspirations of various labor organizations in Indonesia, who believed that Marsinah's struggle represented the voice of workers. Previously, on November 10, 2025, Marsinah was officially awarded the title of National Hero of Indonesia alongside Soeharto. The presence of the Mrs. Marsinah Museum and the halfway house is expected to serve as a memorial space and a reminder to the younger generation of the importance of the struggle for justice, human rights, and support for workers.
