More and more designers around the world are passionate about creating objects dominated by a clever concept, unforgettable form, captivating technology, or rare materials. Designers eagerly create limited-edition and one-of-a-kind pieces destined for museums and private collections. This lecture will examine design in which functionality takes a backseat to more abstract parameters: which installations and objects prioritize the spirit of the times, visual appeal, interactivity, and the ability to evoke emotion? More and more museums around the world are dedicating their spaces and intellectual resources to exhibitions of contemporary design. Curators are proposing innovative, large-scale project themes, juxtaposing objects and concepts from different eras, typologies, and functions. How are European and American collectible design galleries, facing fierce competition, encouraging designers to take on objects that are extremely challenging to execute?
