Episodio #004 Gimario | Backstage 99 Podcast
Gimario, one of the biggest names in national urban music, visits BACKSTAGE 99 to tell us some things... a little unusual for him. Hailing from Limón, a Caribbean province of Costa Rica, and in my opinion, one of the best with its excellent gastronomy and culture, Gima speaks from his personal perspective on topics such as the chaotic national scene, which has been stagnant for years, and the negative effect TikTok has had on the global scene. He also touches on even more personal topics, such as his struggle with depression, which was rooted in alcohol consumption and the nightlife scene, and the complexities of being from the 7th province, a cradle of artists but also a place of great social inequality and stigma. Gima is an ICON of the national music scene, boasting not only hits but ANTHEMS like “Galán Nunca Muere” and “La Falsa,” considered urban classics, and “I Wanna F You,” the latter from his more recent era, demonstrating his versatility and enduring artistry. This performance and consistency allow him to hold his own CONCERT today, June 6th, with an extensive repertoire of hits—an achievement reserved for only a select few in the country. Today, leading his own movement, “EMY” (The Same Me), where his direct and, above all, authentic nature is reflected, he is undoubtedly the most qualified artist to sit backstage and advise the modern scene, especially its younger members.
