The Utsavar Deity of Sri Narasimha will be offered the Maha-Abhisheka, an elaborate ceremonial bath accompanied by Vedic chanting, bhajans and kirtans. Witness this auspicious event, and be blessed. Sri Narasimha Jayanti is the auspicious appearance day of Lord Narasimha, a half-lion, half-man incarnation of Lord Krishna. The Supreme Lord appeared to protect His devotee Prahlada from his demoniac father, Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu received a special benediction from Lord Brahma that he could not be killed by any human being, devata, animal or any other entity. He could also not be killed by any kind of weapon, neither during the day nor at night. So, the Lord appeared in half-man, half-lion form and killed him with His nails at twilight while satisfying all the conditions. Narasimhadeva appeared at dusk on the Shukla Chaturdashi (the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight) in the month of Vaishakha (May). Devotees fast till dusk (6.48 PM IST) on this day.
