IVC ultrasound
The 2008 ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians) Policy Statement on Emergency Ultrasound Guidelines includes the evaluation of intravascular volume status and estimation of central venous pressure (CVP) based on sonographic examination of the inferior vena cava (IVC). In this video, I present a clinical case in which IVC ultrasonography has helped to answer a critical question regarding the fluid therapy of one patient, who presented to the ER with profound hypotension.
