Jamie D at Gloucester
Unfortunately, the basin at Gloucester Docks suffers from a continual large build up of silt. This is caused by the pumping in from the nearby River Severn millions of gallons of water to maintain a working level both in the docks and along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. During the past twenty years several different methods have been used to eliminate the build up of silt. During late May of 2022 the Swansea based plough dredger was here in Gloucester to move as much silt as possible into deeper water in preparation for the Gloucester Tall Ships Festival in June.
