4K RAILWAY LINE CLOSURE - The Bungaree Loop Railway - open 1879 - closed 2020

Today the now closed Bungaree alignment of the Ballarat to Melbourne railway is featured. Sunday Night 27th of December 2020 V/Line Passenger VL08 was the last ever train to run over this section of track before the line was closed. The line opened way back in 1879 and is only closing in 2020 due to a more modern and direct passing loop being built which improves line speed and shortens the travel time as well. With no active stations, the decision is one that will benefit everyone as you will see in the video. While it's V/Line Vlocity units that travel the line these days, the Bungaree loop does have lots of history and this video will explain some of that to you. The only thing missing is reference to the Bungaree Racecourse branch line which closed in 1949. Well known railway photographer Steve Bucton allowed me to use some of his pictures from the Bungaree are and a number of photos are featured in this presentation.
