Bobbie Burgers in Conversation with Hilary Letwin
Recorded Tuesday, October 26, 2021. Bobbie Burgers: the Hard Work of Spring presented by the West Vancouver Art Museum features new works by the artist, including two new series of works on paper and two free-standing sculptures. Join West Vancouver Art Museum Curator, Hilary Letwin, for a wide-ranging conversation with artist Bobbie Burgers, followed by a Q&A session. Bobbie Burgers is a West Vancouver-based painter whose work intimately examines the natural processes of decay, transformation, and metamorphosis. While florals have always been her primary source of inspiration, her unique understanding of their physical composition and metaphorical connotations have allowed her to push the classical subject to near abstraction. In addition to canvas, Burgers’ expressive mark-making and textural surfaces extend to collage and sculpture. Burgers has exhibited her work internationally including in Sweden and China. Burgers is represented in Toronto, Vancouver and San Francisco. Dr. Hilary Letwin gained her PhD in Art History from Johns Hopkins University in 2013. She has held Curatorial Fellowships at the British Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Recent projects include Cornelia Hahn Oberlander: Genius Loci (2020); Design for Living: West Coast Modern Homes Revisited (2019); Saints, Sinners and Souvenirs: Italian Masterworks on Paper (2019); and Molly Lamb Bobak: Talk of the Town (2018). She currently works as the Museum Administrator/Curator at the West Vancouver Art Museum. This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Bobbie Burgers: The Hard Work of Spring at the West Vancouver Art Museum from October 13 to December 11, 2021.
