It is also the only one of the three Punic Wars in which sea battles played a decisive role. The main struggle was for control over the largest Mediterranean island — Sicily. However, there was no shortage of land battles: for example, in 256 BC, the Romans landed their army in North Africa for the first time and attempted to capture "New City" — Carthage.
