My first road bike tour of the spring (last year) took me along the then still deserted Adige Valley Cycle Path from Mals in the Vinschgau Valley up towards the Reschen Pass – a perfect route for a successful start to the season. The cycle path runs mostly away from the road, so I was able to practically bypass the pass and encounter no traffic. For road cyclists, this is a huge advantage: a quiet route, clean asphalt sections, and yet some steep climbs. An absolute tourist highlight of the tour was the famous church in Lake Reschen, the church tower of Alt-Graun, rising from the water. This landmark in the Vinschgau Valley is not only a popular photo subject but also a special moment on any bike tour at the Reschen Pass. This time, however, it was completely free of tourist crowds – I was practically the only tourist :-). The route along the Adige Valley Cycle Path in the Vinschgau Valley is perfect for road cyclists, gravel bikers, and leisure cyclists. With its moderate gradient, the stunning Alpine scenery, and the low-traffic route, it's ideal for a first road bike ride of the spring. ☀️ Conclusion: A fantastic road bike tour in the Vinschgau Valley, with little traffic, perfect cycling infrastructure, and breathtaking views. The section from Mals to the Reschen Pass is perfect for racking up the miles and getting back into shape after winter.
