La política hoy: ¿Hay cada vez menos tolerancia de la población a los tiempos de las instituciones?
Uruguay is often recognized for the strength of its democratic institutions, the stability of its party system, and its respect for institutional procedures. However, there is a debate about the growing distance between citizens and the political system, in a context where social demands seem to require increasingly rapid and visible responses. This tension raises questions about the capacity of institutions to respond to a society that has changed its expectations regarding the timing of political action. Julian Kanarek, a political scientist and consultant, uses the concept of democratic acceleration to describe how digital culture and the immediacy of screens have altered citizens' patience, generating a "dopamine culture." This makes society more anxious and impatient and hinders tolerance for the timelines, processes, and bureaucracies inherent in democratic governments. Is Uruguay experiencing this, a democratic acceleration?
