In spatial geometry, we study pyramids. In this particular lesson, in addition to studying their definition, elements, nomenclature, classification, and area and volume calculations, we can also study the truncated pyramid. And that is precisely the topic of today's lesson. When we section a pyramid through a plane parallel to its base, we divide the pyramid into two solids: a new pyramid (smaller than the original pyramid) and another solid. We call this other solid the frustum of the pyramid. Elements of the frustum of the pyramid We've discussed the definition of a frustum of a pyramid in general terms. However, we can still make some classifications. If the sectioned pyramid is regular, we say that the frustum formed is a regular frustum (as is the case in the image above). In this case, we can highlight the following elements of the regular frustum: 📐 Larger base: This is the base of the initial pyramid; 📐 Smaller base: This is the polygon generated by the section (which is the base of the smaller pyramid formed by cutting the original pyramid); 📐 Height: This is the distance between the two bases of the frustum; 📐 Lateral edges; 📐 Base edges; 📐 Lateral faces.
