Ministerio de Salud reporta incremento de casos de paperas en El Salvador durante 2026
The Ministry of Health's Epidemiological Bulletin revealed that 44 cases of infectious parotitis, commonly known as mumps, have been registered so far this year, 15 of which occurred in April alone. Medical specialists explain that this viral disease, transmitted through saliva droplets, primarily affects children, adolescents, and young adults whose immunity has waned over time. Experts emphasize the importance of completing the full MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination schedule to prevent outbreaks in schools and universities, warning that a lack of booster doses exposes patients to serious complications such as orchitis or pancreatitis.
