Old But Still Progressing (With Age Comes Wisdom)

Progressing in kiteboarding gets harder as you get older — but it’s far from impossible. This is a long-awaited video we’ve wanted to make for a while. In it, we break down how we’ve continued to progress safely in kiteboarding in our 30s and close to 40, without destroying our bodies or burning out. We kite a lot, we love pushing ourselves, but progression isn’t always fast or linear anymore. We’ve crashed a lot, gone through pain, setbacks, and slow phases — and we want to share what actually worked for us. Let’s be honest: Kids and riders in their teens or early 20s can sometimes land three new tricks in one session. That’s not our reality — and that’s okay. This video is for riders 30+ who still want to progress, but smarter. What we cover: 1️⃣ Accept that progression is non-linear Be patient. Set realistic goals and break tricks down into small, digestible components. Film yourself, ask for feedback, and don’t rush the process. 2️⃣ Use video analysis (and be honest with yourself) Compare your attempts to solid examples. Look at timing, kite position, takeoff, and body movement — not just the trick name. 3️⃣ Take coaching (our recent “cheat code”) We recently started coaching with @LoicDeKoninck, an incredible Big Air coach we met in Egypt on the Banter Boat trip. He’s coached riders like Pippa and professional King of the Air athletes. His ability to instantly pinpoint mistakes, break tricks down, and guide progression has been a game-changer for us. Most importantly — he can do every trick we want to do and way more 😄 4️⃣ Train tricks both ways Frontroll one way = backroll the other. Late backroll loop = contra late front. Sushi one way = boogie contra the other. Board-off one side = board-off the other. This doubles your progression and massively improves body awareness. 5️⃣ Don’t ignore the basics Pop and takeoff matter more than you think. If your pop is weak, you’ll compensate and build bad habits that hold you back long-term. If you want to dial this in, check out our jumping tutorials: ▶️ Part 1:    • Tutorial - Takeoff Technique For Massive B...   ▶️ Part 2:    • Tutorial - Takeoff Technique For Massive B...   Also: don’t do boogies if you can’t loop properly. Strong fundamentals = safer progression. And finally — have fun Progression isn’t a straight line. Some days you move forward, some days you move back. Adapt your goals to the conditions, enjoy riding with friends, and don’t be too hard on yourself. You can always work on: – Takeoff – Frontrolls & backrolls – Adding grabs or board-offs – Individual components of bigger tricks Enjoy the ride 🤙
