Gender Dynamics Webinar Recording

This recorded presentation introduces findings from MVC’s Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) research, exploring how household dynamics shape decision-making, labour, and productivity among smallholder farming families in Malawi’s macadamia value chain. Drawing from experiences in Mzimba and Thyolo, the session highlights how gender norms influence farm operations, income use, and participation in economic opportunities, and why understanding the “joint” nature of farming households matters for more effective and inclusive agricultural programming. The presentation also reflects on practical implications for extension services, farmer support models, and value chain interventions aimed at improving productivity while strengthening gender equality and household resilience.
