Forensic science expert Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, known to many through her program "Evidence," is known for her ability to uncover secrets in other lives. Today, I'll tell you about Sevil Atasoy, who has a place in the memory of a generation. It was 1949 when she was born. She was born in Istanbul, the daughter of Professor Dr. Şemsi Gök and Dr. Ferda Gök. Her mother, Dr. Ferda Gök, was the founder of the Encouragement Laboratory, one of Türkiye's first private laboratories. While we know her as Sevil Atasoy, she has a rather long name. In an interview with Hürriyet's Zeynep Bilgehan, Atasoy said: "From there, we know her as Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy!" Atasoy begins with the story of her name: “After a difficult birth, my mother told my father, ‘Name me whatever you want!’ So my father named me ‘Hafize Hikmet,’ inspired by his grandmother and father. My grandmother bribed the civil servant with a fountain pen and had him add ‘Sevil.’ And I happily use all my names, like a Spanish nobleman. I finished primary school in Şişli Terakki. At his family's request, he studied at a German high school. He actually wanted to be an architect. He also had an artistic inclination. He wrote poems, but one day, his grandmother found his poetry notebook and tore it up, telling him not to bother with such trivial matters. He still had no plans to follow his father's profession. Since his mother had a private laboratory, her family wanted him to take over. Therefore, by his family's decision, he was going to study biochemistry. But he didn't score well on the university entrance exam in his first year and enrolled in the chemistry department at Galatasaray University. After studying there for a semester, he transferred to Istanbul University in his second year. Istanbul University Chemistry She graduated from the faculty. She specialized in biochemistry and earned a doctorate in medical sciences. She became a biochemistry specialist in 1976. Meanwhile, her personal life was also a bit complicated. Her father was a forensic medicine specialist. Her father, also deeply influenced by what he saw around him, would never allow his daughter to go out in the evenings. She was subject to intense pressure from her father and her peers. She had a good time with Faruk, whom she had been dating since middle school. She wanted to get married to escape the pressure from her father, but her father, Faruk, did not allow this marriage because he was a leftist. As a result, Atasoy married someone else. But this marriage was short-lived. In her senior year of university, she married her first love, Faruk. Of course, the faces we know from the screen have private lives we don't know. None of us had predicted the confession made by Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, whom we came to know and love from the TV series "Evidence," about her own life. Atasoy was a guest on the YouTube program "Haber Öncem" (News Excuse), hosted by Gökay Kalaycıoğlu. Atasoy made the following statements: "You shouldn't get married at a very young age. The pressure from my father and my peers was immense. My father was a forensic specialist, so he didn't want his daughter out at night. I never stayed at a friend's house even for a single night. I got married to escape my parents' house, but it wasn't right. That was also very short-lived. My father didn't want the man I'd been dating since middle school because he was a leftist. Because my father said, "I won't marry a communist," I married someone else, not the man I loved (Faruk). But then I went back to Faruk, and we had a daughter. That process was very difficult for both Faruk and me. While I was married to my first husband, I took my suitcase and ran away with the man I loved. He was staying at a student residence in Ankara, and when he saw me with a suitcase, he collapsed and died. Life brought us together after many years. Faruk is a very intelligent man. He never mentioned my marital situation. There are men who understand women, and so is Faruk. She handles me well." Turning to her career, Sevil Atasoy has always been a very successful woman. But she couldn't fulfill her mother's dreams. Her mother wanted her daughter to study chemistry so she could work in her own laboratory. But Sevil Atasoy never worked there. Instead, she followed in her father's footsteps. In an interview with Hürriyet, she said: "I completed my mandatory internship at the Institute of Forensic Medicine during my senior year of university. At the suggestion of my teacher, Prof. Dr. Alaeddin Akçasu, I started working in the institution's 'Chemistry Department.' I served as department head for 15 years. In 1982, I founded the Institute of Forensic Medicine, where I stayed until my retirement. In addition to her teaching position at the Cerrahpaşa Faculty...
