Captain Henry Nthani has told the Ad-hoc Committee that the June 10, 2024 plane crash was “a very unavoidable fatal accident”. He said the pilots who were operating the ill-fated aircraft were experienced and had the ability to control it, but maintained that the accident was ultimately unavoidable. He cited situations in which pilots encounter severe weather conditions that can make aircraft difficult to control, though he believes the crew still managed the situation as best as possible. Asked why there was no fire from the aircraft wreckage, Nthani said he believes the pilots may have switched off the master switch “so that they die with dignity,” adding that it was, in his view, an inevitable accident.
