Xtabay and Don Nicolás: A Mayan story based on true events. A Mayan woman tells the story of a man named Don Nicolás, whom she remembered playing on his swing as a child. Nicolás was a humble farmer who lived in Xlal Kaj, near Tihosuco, in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo. Many call this town "the ghost town" due to the many paranormal events that occur in this abandoned village. Xlal Kaaj, like Tihosuco, was one of the sites of the Mayan Social War, in which many people died. Trenches from that period can be found in Xlal Kaj, as well as a beautiful church. The reason for its abandonment and why it has never been repopulated are currently unknown.
