We’ve almost always run Cycra handguards on our dirt bikes, but different models in the past. Both on the KTM 300 and Beta Xtrainer, we have the Ultra Probend HCM Cycras mounted. It’s no lie that we tend to overuse the Cycras to protect our levers when our bikes and bodies are ending up on the ground. We have successfully put these through the wringer and can say that they stand up to the abuse and protect the vitals. While many of the bones stay the same from model to model, the mount point is what you want to pay attention to. For our dirt bikes, the HCM mount is key. The reason for that is that it prevents the guards from spinning or moving on the handlebars as they mount directly into your stock handlebar mount. The one and only drawback we can see with this mount is that you can’t adjust the position of the guards up and down. For both the Beta and the KTM, they have been positioned pretty nicely when we mount them up. I think ideally on the KTM I’d like to tilt them down slightly, but so far they’ve done the job of protection. One of our favorite things about Cycra handguards is that you can essentially replace any one piece at a time. If the bars are good but your plastic is pretty chewed up, you can just get new plastic. It’s a great system to ensure you don’t have to spend unnecessary money when you scuff up some plastic. We don’t have a motorcycle that doesn’t have Cycra handguards mounted, and for good reason. They’re tough, withstand abuse, and are easy to replace parts if you keep falling on that one side (only speaking from experience). They seem like an investment at first but depending on what kind of riding you do, will last many years.
