The Oodnadatta Track Broke a Mirror (And Nearly an Engine)

We finally begin the Oodnadatta Track, starting with a very busy stop at Farina, a famous bakery pie, and the last two loaves of bread before heading north. From Farina we continue to Marree, stock up as best we can, and start following the old railway line into one of South Australia’s most iconic outback drives. But with supplies low, firewood gone, water still sitting on the road, and corrugations starting to build, the track quickly reminds us that things can change fast out here. Along the way we free camp near a dry riverbed, pass old railway sidings and fettlers’ cottages, hear about a traveller who got caught out at a water crossing, and visit the incredible Mound Springs, including The Bubbler and Blanche Cup.
