In Proverbs 4:23, the Bible instructs us: "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." God knows that what we allow into our hearts influences our thoughts, decisions, and spiritual direction. Often we want to please everyone, be everywhere, and carry burdens that God never asked us to carry. But spiritual maturity also involves learning to say no to what threatens our peace, our emotional health, and our relationship with God. Not everything that is accessible is healthy. Not everything that is permitted is beneficial. Healthy boundaries help us preserve what God is building within us. Boundaries are part of your spiritual protection.
