Crankshaft Position Sensor Test

How to test a 3 wire hall effect crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor using a multimeter. The two sensors are critical components of the engine management system. The inputs they provide enable the powertrain control module (PCM) to determine the engine speed and position including which cylinder is on which stroke. Through the combination of both sensor signals, the engine control unit knows when the first cylinder is in the top dead center (TDC). This information is used by engine management systems to control the fuel injection or the ignition system timing and other engine parameters. Thanks for watching.
