ORBI WiFi 7 Mesh RBE970 vs Nighthawk WiFi 7 Router RS700S: mit Jörg Lösche, Netgear

The Netgear Orbi WiFi 7 Mesh System 970 series has been available in the US since October 2023. The locally adapted version for Germany is expected to be released in late 2023 or early 2024. The 3-unit set will then have a suggested retail price of €2,399.99. More precisely: • The white 3-unit Orbi RBE973S set with 1 router and 2 satellites: €2,399.99. • The black 3-unit Orbi RBE973SB set with 1 router and 2 satellites: €2,399.99. • The white or black 2-unit Orbi RBE972S/B set with 1 router and 1 satellite: €1,699.99. • A single Orbi RBE970 add-on satellite: €899.99. Jörg Lösche, Managing Director Central & Eastern Europe at NETGEAR, received the first Orbi WiFi 7 Mesh units from the US to his Munich office in November 2023. In the video interview, he explains the new features and application possibilities of the upcoming quad-band WiFi 7 mesh system. At the end, he draws a comparison with the tri-band stand-alone Nighthawk WiFi 7 router RS700S, which has been available in Germany since the end of October 2023 for €899.99. This is the same price as a single Orbi RBE970/B add-on satellite. The usability of both Netgear WiFi 7 systems (Orbi and Nighthawk) is greater in the US than in Germany because users there are likely to have more than twice the bandwidth in the 6 GHz band compared to those in Germany and Europe. To put it metaphorically: Americans can essentially use a four-lane data highway in the 6 GHz band. Europeans, however, only have a two-track system. This is due to legal restrictions on wireless communication in Europe, which will hopefully be eased soon. The US version of the Orbi WiFi 7 Mesh System could therefore deliver more Wi-Fi power in Germany than the German version. Netgear manager Jörg Lösche strongly advises against using the original American version of its WiFi 7 products in Europe, as this violates local laws and can be penalized by the German Federal Network Agency.
