This was historically one of the very first scores to call itself a rag, even though technically it's not a rag but instead a collection of cakewalk melodies collected and transcribed by Krell. It's arranged in the "patrol" style which mimics the point of view of an observer of a parade marching by, first soft then louder then soft again. William Krell was a band leader from Chicago who composed a number of pieces mainly during the 1890s. This one was published in 1897 by S. Brainard in Chicago.
