In this video I'll show you a very effective way to practice jazz improvisation. First, we have to find a phrase of one of our favourite jazz musicians and transcribe it. Then, as a second step, we analyze the phrase and try to understand it the best we can. Third is practicing - we practice the phrase in at least 3 keys (12 keys for experienced improvisers). Then we apply variation techniques and change the phrase so we develop our own unique version of it. This is the step that will allow you to develop your own unique phrases and ultimately your own way of playing. The fifth step is to apply the phrase and its variations to tunes, like a blues or other jazz standards you're playing. I've developed this 5-step system based on 15 years and 10 000+ practice hours of experience. 00:00 INTRODUCTION 01:30 (1) Transcribe 02:23 (2) Analyze 03:04 (3) Practice 05:50 (4) VARY 09:27 (5) APPLY 14:25 OUTRO Want the PDF for this video?
