LAFD / Wharf Fire / San Pedro Fire Boats in Action! / Part 3 of 3 / Morning-Daytime

9-22-2014 It took Los Angeles Firefighters over 14 hours to control a blaze that ran the underside of a wharf at Berth 177 in San Pedro Harbor. All five Los Angeles Fireboats were utilized together with two Fire Boats from the Long Beach Harbor. Several other agencies were also on scene. Even with divers, access underneath the pier was difficult, due to the old wooden wharf being covered with newer layers of concrete. The fire involved the creosote covered timber pilings underneath that was reportedly built before World War II. Several hundred feet of the Wharf was involved in the fire. Over 150 Firefighters battled the stubborn blaze, keeping it from spreading to nearby warehouses. The cause of the smokey fire was reported to be a result of a wayward welders torch.
