I was playing pro baseball at the time so I didn’t have a lot of options as far as a job went. I had to get creative in order to provide. After furnishing our apartment with used furniture from Craigslist, I had a revelation that I could sell all the furniture and make a healthy profit. I decided to test my theory and buy another couch. After a couple days I successfully sold it for $200 profit. At that point I decided to go all in on my new business. I bought a truck on Craigslist for $1500. I rented a storage unit and I was off to the races. I was making crazy good money at the time! Eventually I ended up upgrading my truck and scaling up to 4 storage units. I was averaging about $8,000 per month in net profit. As my business grew I realized that I preferred selling couches above anything else. They had less problems, were easier to transport, and there was a big demand for them. It was a very lucrative business and it was an amazing experience into my first true entrepreneur venture. Eventually I hired my first employee (my buddy) and I started focusing on real estate investing. That was good for about a year. After that, I started to realize that house flipping and wholesaling was much more lucrative so I gave up the couch business. It was a great side hustle in my 20’s. I highly recommend it for those looking for a way to make some good money. I wouldn’t want to do it the rest of my life, but its a better income than most.
