Colin and Tamara’s Story

Meet Colin and Tamara who both have health problems that severely limit their ability to enjoy the countryside by any other means except driving. Tamara has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and nerve damage and Colin has fibromyalgia, meaning he has severe fatigue and aches and pains. Getting out in nature has helped them to manage the frustrations of their conditions as well as meeting new people and providing a pastime where their health conditions are not obvious to all and they can participate without adaptations or obvious signs of their physical limitations. “I don't want to think what kind of situation we would be and if we hadn't started green laning because I don't think we'd have found another way to get out and about,” Tamara said. Formed in 1995, the Green Lane Association is a national organisation that promotes inclusive countryside access for all. Our members drive green lanes for many reasons—work, pleasure, helping to maintain public rights of way in the UK, or simply because they cannot experience the beauty of the countryside in any other way.
