Could Tropical Storm Arthur Form? | National Hurricane Center Update

The latest Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook from the National Hurricane Center is now highlighting a medium chance for possible tropical development in the northwestern Gulf. The system, known as AL90, could become a tropical depression or briefly strengthen into Tropical Storm Arthur, which would be the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. Heavy rain, gusty winds and coastal flooding are possible along parts of the Gulf Coast, especially across portions of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, regardless of whether the system fully develops. For those of us in the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, this is not a direct local threat at this time. However, it is an important reminder that the Atlantic hurricane season is underway, and we’ll continue watching the tropics closely. I’m based in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and I hold a Certificate in Weather Forecasting from Penn State University. My channel focuses on weather across the USVI, Puerto Rico and the wider Caribbean, along with tropical weather updates throughout hurricane season.
