Fight for the scenes: How important is social responsibility at festivals? (SEA YOU 2026)

How can music events influence the development of local scenes, support artists and build a more diverse and inclusive line-up? We will also consider best practices in the industry – from tangible support for creators, through fair terms of collaboration, to initiatives that strengthen local communities and the music scene. We want to show that festivals are not just entertainment, but also a vital part of the music ecosystem, which has a real impact on the development of culture, the arts scene and the relationships between artists, audiences and organisers. FIGHT FOR THE SCENES: HOW IMPORTANT IS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AT FESTIVALS? The discussion, which took place during the Sea You 3city Music Showcase 2026, was attended by:   BARBORA BODNÁROVÁ (POHODA FESTIVAL) Working in the cultural sector since 2007. Since 2019, she has been the booking manager at the Pohoda Festival. During the pandemic, she became involved in seeking alternative sources of funding and initiatives supporting the music industry. MIRAN RUSJAN (MENT LJUBLJANA) Active on the independent music scene for 20 years, founder of the Moonlee agency and label. Manager of the MENT Ljubljana conference, a key showcase in Central and Eastern Europe. ELINA KALNIBALOTSKAYA (BELARUSIAN COUNCIL FOR CULTURE) Culture manager with over 10 years’ experience, co-founder and director of development at the Belarusian Cultural Council, which has been supporting Belarusian artists both at home and abroad since 2020; she is also involved with Belarus Music Export.
