We arrived at Chihara Onsen. It was quite a long way to get here, and the roads were not well maintained, so I was a little worried. It used to be a hot spring inn that specialized in therapeutic bathing, but now it specializes in day-trip bathing. The wooden sign says "Chihara Yuya Toujiba." The bathing fee is 500 yen per visit. The bathing time is up to one hour. The 500 yen per visit is for one soak (500 yen). If you want to soak again, you have to take a break at the free rest area on the first floor, and you have to pay another 500 yen if you soak again. So, if you want to soak for more than an hour or take a break and soak again, I recommend the 5-hour course for 1,200 yen. You can also use the private rest area on the second floor. When you soak, carbon dioxide bubbles pop up from below and tickle your body. The water is about body temperature. It's very lukewarm. The water is lukewarm, so from October to May you can enjoy the "agari-yu" (a bath after bathing) of the Goemon bath, which is heated with firewood. Apparently, this bath has been heated with firewood since ancient times.
