Iblis is the leader of all devils (shaitans), both jinn and humans, who leads them into Hellfire. As for the devils (shaitans) among the jinn, he is not only their leader, but also their forefather. The enmity between Iblis and humans began from the very first moment of the appearance of our forefather Adam. The Almighty created Adam from clay and then breathed into him the spirit He had created, after which He commanded all the angels to greet the new, wonderful creation with a bow, thereby honoring the forefather of humanity. At this time, Iblis was among the angels (he was not an angel for a single moment, he was a jinn, but he was allowed to be in the company of angels and worship the Creator with them). Hearing Allah's command, the angels, these pure, obedient slaves of the Creator, immediately bowed in prostration. Only Iblis refused to obey Allah's command. He considered it beneath his dignity, revealing his arrogant, haughty, and envious nature: "How can I bow to one created from dust, from clay?! I am better than him, for I am created from fire"—this is how he objected to his Creator, brazenly rejecting His command. Allah tells us about this event in the Quran: All rights reserved. مِّن طِينٍ * فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ * فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ * إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ "And when your Lord said to the angels, 'I will create man from clay. When I have fashioned him according to his form and breathed into him a spirit I have honored, then prostrate yourselves to him.' So all the angels prostrated themselves, except Iblis, who became arrogant and was of the disbelievers." (Surah Sad, 38:71-74).
