© Tsaritsyno State Museum-Reserve. The Birth of Porcelain. Far Eastern History. A lecture from the series "White Gold of Kings: The History of Porcelain." The origins of porcelain and its characteristics. The spread of porcelain from China to Korea and Japan. The history of Chinese porcelain in Europe and Russia. In celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of Dmitry Vinogradov, the creator of Russian porcelain, the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve has prepared a series of lectures on this amazingly flexible and highly prized material. Throughout most of its history, porcelain was the property of a few. It is no coincidence that in Europe it was called the "white gold of kings." This series of six lectures offers a tracing of the history of porcelain from its inception to the present day. The event is timed to coincide with the exhibition "Porcelain in Russia: Origins and Traditions. On the 300th Anniversary of Dmitry Vinogradov." The first lecture in the series will introduce the origins of porcelain and its characteristics. Far Eastern history will trace the spread of porcelain from China to Korea and Japan. The history of Chinese porcelain in Europe and Russia will also be discussed. Lecturer: Alexandra Stepina, Head of the Research Department at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, PhD in Art History, and exhibition curator. Prior to Tsaritsyno, Alexandra Georgievna Stepina worked at: The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts: Deputy Director for Educational Activities and Visitor Relations, Project Manager of the Young Art Critics Club at the Museion Center for Aesthetic Education of Children and Youth; The A.V. Shchusev State Museum of Architecture: Deputy Director for Methodological and Educational Work. Exhibition: Porcelain in Russia: Origins and Traditions. On the 300th Anniversary of Dmitry Vinogradov. July 11, 2020 – November 8, 2020, Khlebny Dom. The Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve displays the finest examples of European and Russian porcelain from its collection: over 100 pieces created in the 18th century, when this material was so rare and expensive that it was called "white gold," as well as works from the 19th and 20th centuries that brought worldwide fame to Russian porcelain. The museum's porcelain collection is relatively new, but has become one of the most significant in our country. It features works from the best Russian factories and private artisans, as well as exemplary products from European manufactories. The development of production during the Soviet period is represented by pieces made at the largest factories of the RSFSR (Leningrad, Dulevo, Dmitrov) and other republics of the Soviet Union—this is the most comprehensive section of the museum collection. An important part of the collection is so-called propaganda porcelain, created by outstanding masters of the Russian avant-garde. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the anniversary of Dmitry Ivanovich Vinogradov, the creator of Russian porcelain. Russia's own porcelain production began in St. Petersburg, at the Nevskaya Porcelain Manufactory (now the Imperial Porcelain Factory), founded in 1744 by Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. After efforts to attract foreign craftsmen failed, the project was entrusted to Dmitry Vinogradov. After ten years of scientific research and experimentation, he independently developed a recipe and established the production of high-quality porcelain. The exhibition presents porcelain as an element of court and private life. The various rooms recreate the atmosphere of porcelain cabinets, menageries, refreshment rooms, and formal dining rooms. Much attention is paid to the period of research in Europe and Russia for porcelain mixture recipes and to how later craftsmen interpreted the style developed at the dawn of the "porcelain era." The exhibition features over 300 exhibits, many of which are being shown for the first time. Project curators: Svetlana Parchak and Alexandra Stepina https://tsaritsyno-museum.ru/events/e... The lecture will be held at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, Grand Palace, and Arzamas Hall. Admission is with a museum ticket and registration.
