Olympic Star In A.B.A. Boxing (1957)
Albert Hall, London. Amateur boxing competition between England and Ireland is held in London's Albert Hall. GV. D. Lloyd and J. Caldwell boxing until they go to clinch in the corner, they separate. SV. Angle shot as Lloyd misses with a right and a left and Caldwell hits with a right followed by a flurry of punches. Lloyd drives him back into the corner, follows with a left and a right and they go into a clinch. LV. Two boxers in a clinch mauling and holding onto each other. They break and start to shape up. SV. & AS. Caldwell lands a cracking right and Lloyd misses with a right - they go into a hold. SV. Boxers break from clinch and Lloyd proceeds to go after Caldwell chasing him towards the ropes with a series of lefts and rights. A right sends Caldwell back onto the ropes but he manages to get up. SCU. Lloyd and Caldwell mixing it and Caldwell comes off the ropes and goes after Lloyd across the ring with a series of lefts and rights. SV. Lloyd leads in with a left and Caldwell lands a right, Lloyd a left and Caldwell pushes Lloyd away. AS. They tear into each other with hammer-like blows. Then they fight in a clinch and break as Lloyd drives Caldwell towards the ropes with a series of left and right punches. They end up fighting against the ropes. This fight was quite good. SCU. Pan from Lord Derby, A.B.A. President, speaking to Mr Conway, discussing the next match. LV. Dick McTaggart, England's Olympic Gold Medalist fighting Irish boxer Tony Byrne. SV. & AS. Byrne goes after McTaggart and tries to land a vicious right but McTaggart's right is there first and they go into a clinch and part. LV. Byrne lands a vicious right. SV. McTaggart sinks to the floor and the referee starts to count. LV. Referee's hand goes down and McTaggart gets up and Byrne starts to come after him to nail him with these vicious rights to try to finish him off. Byrne makes a wild right. McTaggart blocks it, takes it on the shoulder and backs away. Byrne goes after him, takes him into corner and there he tries to nail him with a right but McTaggart dodges that. Byrne still goes after him but McTaggart fights back and has saved the situation. CU. Man watching. SV. & AS. Byrne attacks McTaggart on the ropes with a vicious right but McTaggart counters and lands a lovely right to Byrne's jaw as Byrne still flails away with lefts and rights. SV. Boxers fighting in the middle of the ring, go in a clinch and referee parts them. Exchange of blows from both boxers - McTaggart manages to get in some lovely blows. (Neg.)
