Bronislav Kaminski — The Waffen-SS Commander The SS Itself Decided To Kill
Bronislav Kaminski — The SS General So Out Of Control His Own SS Executed Him He was a chemical engineer. A Gulag survivor. A warlord with his own private state inside occupied Russia. And in August 1944, the same SS that promoted him to the rank of general put him in front of a firing squad — and then lied about it to his own men. This is the story of Bronislav Kaminski, the Polish-German Soviet collaborator who built the Lokot Autonomy in the Bryansk forests, commanded the RONA brigade, was absorbed into the Waffen-SS as the 29th Grenadier Division, and unleashed one of the most brutal episodes of the entire Warsaw Uprising in the Ochota district in August 1944. His own brutality wasn't the problem for the SS. The problem was that he stole from them. And in the world of Heinrich Himmler, that was the one sin even mass murder couldn't excuse. In this episode of UNSOLVED ARCHIVE we follow Kaminski's path from Stalin's labor camps to a quiet execution on a country road near Lodz — and we look at how the SS staged a fake partisan ambush, complete with a bullet-riddled car, to hide the truth from his own brigade. 📚 Sources and further reading: Antonio J.
