Real Lives: Cancer Stories of Indigenous People presented by the American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is proud to support Indigenous communities in addressing cancer disparities and advancing health equity. Indigenous peoples—including American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander populations—continue to face significantly higher cancer mortality rates compared to White populations, especially for kidney, liver, stomach, and cervical cancers (ACS 2025 Cancer Facts & Figures). Through partnerships focused on education, early detection, and culturally respectful care, we work to ensure Indigenous voices are central in shaping cancer prevention and treatment efforts. Our new documentary series, Real Lives: Cancer Stories of Indigenous People, amplifies the powerful journeys of Indigenous individuals, caregivers, and communities. The series explores the social, economic, and geographic barriers they face—and highlights their leadership, resilience, and advocacy in the fight against cancer.
