Stay Lit in an Emergency (Choose Your Light Source Wisely)
When the power goes out at night, the wrong light gets annoying fast. In this video, I take a headlamp and a flashlight through the same blackout route in the city to see which one actually makes life easier once you leave the apartment. Gear in this video: Olight ArkPro Ultra Onyx Black: https://amzn.to/48hvXgr Nextorch eStar Headlamp: https://amzn.to/4tiNddq Interested in the gear in this or another video? Check out the Stay Ready Gear Shop on Amazon: https://a.co/d/02CJlrMR This is not a studio review or a spec-sheet comparison. This is a real-world blackout stress test built around urban movement, gear checks, route planning, water access, and hands-on problem solving. Same route. Same problems. One light at a time. I tested the Olight Arkfeld Ultra Onyx against the Nextorch eStar headlamp in multiple real blackout scenarios, including: dark apartment hallway movement stairwell navigation bag checks and emergency gear access map reading and route verification radio charging and power bank setup alley walking and flood vs spotlight use wall beam testing for spill and throw bench bag checks in a real outdoor setting silcock key water access with a Grayl bottle distance checks on a dark abandoned building real-world one-hand vs two-hand workflow What made this test interesting is that it stopped being a normal headlamp vs flashlight comparison pretty quickly. I expected the flashlight to clearly pull ahead outside and at distance, but the Nextorch spotlight mode kept hanging right there. That changed the whole video. At that point, the real question became: how much inconvenience are you willing to accept if the performance is this close? If you live in an apartment, care about blackout preparedness, urban survival, emergency lighting, EDC gear, practical preparedness, or real-world emergency systems, this one is for you. Both of these lights were sent to me for testing. If you purchase through these links I may get a small percentage to help buy more duct tape.
