Костный клей, левкас, темпера и олифа. Художественные технологии средневековья

Nowadays, most shields in the historical reenactment movement are covered with leather or fabric using PVA glue and painted with acrylic. In the early Middle Ages, they were apparently covered with leather, while in the High and Late Middle Ages, they were covered with either fabric or leather. And they were also painted. In this video, I want to show that creating an authentic shield isn't all that difficult. We'll be discussing bone glue, gelatin, gesso, tempera, and drying oil. I don't really need a shield, so I'll be experimenting with veneer boxes.
